Weekly Photo Challenge: Love (Wedding Band)

With Valentines Day just around the corner, it was pretty fitting for The Daily Post at WordPress.com to make the Weekly Photo Challenge topic Love. I would have enjoyed capturing some photos of my wife and I together for love, but she’s gonna be in Houston for a few more weeks so that wasn’t an option.

As a Pinner, I have seen a few variations on this photo and thought I could capture it using my wedding band and one of my favorite scriptures about love.

Wedding Band Shadow Heart

Ephesians 5: 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

My biggest challenge in taking the photo was fighting with the light glare off of the page. There was no angle that would offer me the heart shadow the way I wanted it without making a bad glare that was pretty distracting in the photo.

My wife will probably never read this, but I couldn’t end without saying that she is the love of my life, and I hope this photo conveys the love I have for her.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Distorted

As I thought about ways I could capture DISTORTED for this week’s The Daily Press at WordPress.com photo challenge, I thought my glasses could offer a great perspective. It was funny that the following day, I saw a post on Behind the Lens using glasses on a computer keyboard. So earlier today, as I sought to take the photo, I settled on the following photo, titled Sunday Reading.

Sunday Reading

Canon 60D | 50mm lens | 1/1000 | f/1.8 | ISO 800

For anyone that actually wears glasses, you’ll understand the challenge of taking them off to photograph them – I was blind as a bat. I used my terrible eyesight to gauge where I wanted to focus my shot, and angled for the name Jesus Christ through the left lens of my glasses.

I took a few shots at different angles, distances and aperture settings, but liked this one the best. The distortion seen through the glasses, as well as the minimal depth of field made the photo look like what I was envisioning.

The setting for my glasses was a religious magazine published by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Ensign is published monthly and contains articles on various topics ranging from strengthening marriage to understanding the life of Jesus Christ, among other things. The back cover featured in this photo shows the first of 13 articles of faith, which highlight the beliefs of members of this Church.

“We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in his son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.”

I really like this photo and think it very appropriate to share on such a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Enjoy.
